Transmission/T-Case heat

Whenever i hop in a nd drive for a few minutes, my whole console where the tcase and transmission are get suppper hot. is there anyways to reduce the heat? Is that a sign that i should change the tcase/tranny fluid?

There's a boot under the console that has probably ripped. Had that problem on mine, and just about roasted my foot driving down to OKC last year.
