Thumbs down tricky TJ electrical problem....

Here's the situation. windshield wipers stopped working (no sound from the wiper motor.) dashboard lights died. and when my headlights are on, the rear lights are not lighting- however they do blink when the blinkers are on, and the reverse lights still work. No fuses seem to be burned out either... are these problems somehow related? I can't figure out the connection...

The only thing that comes to mind is grounds. I would get a good shop manual that has wiring diagrams and start with all the grounds, making sure they are in good order, no rust etc. I am by no means an expert on electrical problems, but when wierd electrical stuff happens, it is usually related to a bad ground somewhere. I hope this helps, I hate hate hate electrical probs

weird electrical problems

I am having weird electrical problems w/ my 99TJ whenever it gets wet (washing[gues I shouldn't wash it-it wants to be dirty],hard rain). I washed my Jeep last week and my main brake lights (not the third), the turn signals, and the hazard lights (Iknow they are the same as the turns) went out. My brake light came back, then the turns then the hazards-in that order. Later that evening when I put on my winshield wipers (the temporary single wipe) my radio volume would go off until the wiper arc was complete. It did this for a couple days then the wipers went out. Now my Jeep blows the new wiper fuse every time I turn it on. And drying it out doesn't seem to help(I left the hood up up most of the day yesterday. A few weeks ago the wiper fuse blew after I washed it, but a new fuse fixed it that time. I suspect it might have something to do w/ the electrical jacks @ the back of the engine compartment. Any feedback woul be appreciated.

You can check the combination switch that your high beams go and turn signals go through or the one your wipers go through. A lot of things in the jeep a wired through that for some reason, and as the honecomb switches in there start to corrode weird things will start to happen. Right now in mine whenever I step on the brake my left turn signal comes on. I am just to lazy to change it right now. Just my .02.

yes i agree.. definitely a ground connection...turn those wipers on, lift the hood and start checking ground connetions from the battery on thru and you'll fix the problem...
