Ok guys... Need help from someone smarter than me. I've read through about 10 pages of search results for this and found no answers there.
I have an '01 TJ. When I bought it, the PO had hard wired the blower motor to a toggle switch. Heat and AC work in all dash positions. I'm trying to fix the circuit so the blower will work from the four position fan speed switch.
I have done the following:
Fuses:
-- Verified fuse 8 in fuse box behind glove box is good - 10A
-- Verified fuse 1 in PDC is good - 40A
Grounds:
-- Verified grounding positions G200, G202, and G203 were all solidly grounded.
Fan speed switch:
-- Installed new fan speed switch.
-- Verified new fan speed switch had proper continuity.
-- Verified 12V power feeding fan speed connector
Blower motor resistor:
-- Installed new blower motor resistor
-- Verified new blower motor resistor has continuity across all three resistors.
-- Verified 12V power feeding resistor pigtail correctly based on fan speed switch setting
Blower motor relay:
-- Installed new relay
Blower motor:
-- Installed new blower motor
-- Verified new blower motor works when hooked directly up to the battery and ground.
-- Verified 12V power feeding the blower motor pigtail... WTH???
With the blower motor hooked up to the blower motor pigtail, I get no movement in the blower, so no heat or AC. If I change the airflow settings I can hear the vent door servos moving to change the flow of air.
With the blower motor hooked up to a separate relay/switch, I get full use of the temperature controls, airflow settings, and my blower running on high only.
Does anyone have any idea how I can have 12V at the blower motor pigtail and still not have use of the blower motor? I verified 12V at the blower motor with the key in the ON position but not with the engine running. Other TJs' blowers will run without the engine running.
