The TD04 will do 20psi no problems, that what I was pushing on my stock WRX turbo with no seal breaks.

However I agree with the others, youll need to fabricate the exhaust, put an intercooler in there somewhere, and all youll get is boost over 2500 rpms.

You really need the low end torque a big V8 will give you

For that turbo you will need a waste gate.

A waste gate is sort of like a blow off valve that opens to prevent the turbo from creating too much boost. Let say you only want the turbo to create 5 psi of boost but its big enough to create 12psi of boost. If you dont have a waste gate it will spin and in higher engine rpm it will spin faster and faster and many times exceeding the 12 psi (known as boost creep). A waste gate is there so it does not do that. If you put on a 5 psi waste gate, your turbo will spin only as fast as it needs to to create 5 psi, the rest of the gasses will be rerouted bypassing the turbine and through the wastegate and on to the regular exhaust.
Notice it on the bottom left side of the turbine?

When you go to bigger turbos often you need to use an external waste gate in addition to the regular one since usually it just isnt enough even with the internal wastegate on the turbo opened to the max.

5 psi kits do not need an intercooler however it will give you some extra power (10-15hp maybe more, depends where you put the turbo).

yeah honestly id go with something like one off an old Saab9000 or something, some little snail that wil be alot less laggy

The one have has done about 5000 racing miles pushing WELL over stock PSI, might not be worth the effort

I have a turbo if you guys are interested. It is a T-3 that came off a Volvo... It has a little shaft play and needs to be rebuilt.... but it is yours for teh cost of shipping to get it out of my way. Oh, and since it is off a Volvo, its turbine flange is shaped different than a standard T-3.

don't forget that you also need to run an oil feed line from an oil pressure source(T-off sender port, oil filter housing if applicable, etc. etc.)to the turbo. You will also need to run a return line to the oil pan.Not hard at all.But easily forgot if you are not familiar with the system.Something like that would make your turbo go boom, shred the turbine into peices and possibly litter your entire engine with debri......in turn getting in your oil passages(or plugging them up) scoring your bearings or starving them.Anyhow, no oil feed=damage.Small but important issue.

other than the "wow factor" i just dont see the point. a turbo is not going to give you anything on the bottom end. secondly, theres going to be more than just plumbing in the turbo, you're going to need more fuel to back it up---so a programmer and/or additional fuel injection. if you do it right, the time and money you spend to properly tune it, you'd be better off swapping a v-8 (or a diesel ) especially since you're already going to the trouble of swapping engines in the first place.....

I'd go with a diesel. People run those things on oil from the friers from mcdonalds and other fast food places. I'd love to have a jeep that smells like fries every time i drive it.

With a turbo it's also good practice to let the it idle for a little before shut down to help prevent the oil from cooking (spelling?) up in the turbo. But most people don't do this.

For that you can get a turbo timer. It leaves your car running for 2-3 minutes after you take out the key.

He probably means "seizes up" when he says "locks up".

Some good cleaning will be enough. As long as you leave it for a minute or two after each use you will be fine.
