Try applying the brake and move the turn signal switch up & down and see if your brake lights work. OR squirt a LITTLE BIT of electrical contact cleaner into the turn signal housing. If you start to get a few blinks or lights appear, you need to replace the turn signal switch. ($30 bucks from Advance Auto/Auto Zone) if ya do, you do not have to take the wheel off like the "dealer" told me. I did it myself in a half hour. My problem was that my signals worked but then mysterously would stay lit constant, and my brake lights went into 4- hazard mode. But not no more! LoL. Hope this helps....

same problem here. i had to replace a burnt wiring harness that connected into the signal multi-function switch behind the steering wheel. in my case i replaced the harness, when the fuses kept burning, i traced the problem back to a shorted wire for the middle brake light in the tail gate.

it's a pretty common issue in tj's. there are some threads on here some where about troubleshooting the problem. the 20-way multi-funtion switch harness, if that is your problem, ran me about 70 bucks at a local dealership.

I guess that's what I need then too. My left signal sometimes stays lit until I give the signal lever a bump.
