Turn signal problem

Hi, I just bought my 16 year old son a 1998 Wrangler. I drove it home today and noticed the turn signals weren't working right, here is what there doing. Turn on the left signal, nothing, no lights no clicks, if you just hold the handle down lightly the signal blinks very fast. If you turn the right signal on it clicks very fast, if you just hold it lightly it works normal. The emergency flashers do not work at all, oh, if you turn the emergency flasher switch on with the key off, the turn signals will do what they were doing as if he key was on. I was told by the guy I bought it from that he changed the bulbs, maybe he put the wrong ones in or maybe the turn signal switch is bad?

First yes check the bulbs.
For connection and corotion in the sockets. and ground. Also check fuses and relay.
Second...common issue with the turn signal switch to wear out. Fix you can try and clean the contacts in it or...replace the stalk.

Clean the contacts on the jeep before installing new bulbs to remove any corrotion or debre.

Best of luck bud, hope it's just the bulbs for you. Most common is the switch is the issue sadly.

OK, Thank you for the advice. It actually was 3 different issues, I changed all the bulbs, some were bad, I cleaned the contacts in the turn signal switch, worked much better and the final problem was the connector from the harness to the driver side parking light was corroded. I took it apart, cleaned it and everything now works fine.
