uneven idle and it misfires

Hi,

I am new to the forums but not to my jeep. Bought her new in 2001 and has been great to own. She has 136,000 miles on her and is a I6. No real modifications except a cold air intake in 2005.

But in the last year she now does this uneven idle and feels like it is going to die. And it feels like she is not firing on all cylinders.

Cleaned the air filter and changed the plugs. It does not happen all the time but on occasion. Not really weather dependent either.

Any suggestion or help you may have would be greatly appeciated.

I would say IAC or TPS that would be Idle air control or Throttle Position Sensor just incase and also welcome to the WF.Oh another thing are you getting any codes/check engine light?

Neither an IAC or a TPS can cause it to run like it's not hitting on all cylinders. Those will affect ALL cylinders.

Look for a vacuum leak.

That is true but as stated feels like does not mean that they are getting an actual misfire. The IAC and or the TPS can cause an up and down idle or a lopping that "feels" close to an engine "not running on all cylinders" a vacuum leak is also a good starting point. It could be a number of things and really need to know if it has popped any codes or if the CEL is on.

Jeeps are know for fouling the IAC sensor. It's easy to remove and clean.

i agree, doesn't mean it is an actual misfire, dirty throttle body, also bad iac can cause erratic idle, idling very rough and dying. lots of possibilities. those are common
