Valve spring question

Just replaced stock muffler with smaller off road muffler tucked up underneath. Question is with the older valve springs that are notoriously weak with age, will the back pressure drop cause problems with my exhaust valves closing when they are supposed to? This would maybe explain the CEL for #4 cyl misfire, loss of power, and gas burn I'm experiencing...or am I reaching on this one?
