Vibration and such.....

I have a 1999 jeep wrangler tj sport with 4.0. So I recently had a 4inch lift kit installed, now a few weeks later I noticed a lot of vibration and the steering wheel shakes up and down. This also happens with the steering column. I replaced the ball joints previously and had the the front end aligned so it does not seem to be a death wobble, I replaced the front and rear universals and it took a lot of the shaking away but... when I drive at 35 mph the steering wheel starts to shake up and down again a little, and I can definitely feel vibration when i push the throttle mid way like somethings not rotating in circle. no clue what is happening! The vibration does go away when I push the clutch in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I have power steering issues i think? I hear a loud whining noise when I tap the throttle. It will go quiet when I don't hit the throttle but the farther I push the throttle down the louder the whining noise gets... any help there would be good too.

With the lift did you also have a SYE kit installed? This maybe part of your problem. I have a 4" lift on mine as well but I dont experience the shake in the steering column. I only have a vibration under acceleration due not having the SYE kit yet.

With a lift that high, you are probably going to need a slip yoke eliminator and a new driveshaft. In the mean time you could drop your tcase using washers in order to drive, or order a tcase drop kit.

yeah I dropped the T case, and put brand new universals in, could there be something wrong with my tranny? or t case? I do not currently have a sye kit installed, I should but ill do that a bit later down the road

A tcase drop is not normally even close to being enough to get rid of the vibrations caused by a suspension lift as tall as 4". I HATE it when shops sell 4" suspension lifts to unsuspecting SWB Wrangler TJ owners without telling them they are likely to develop serious vibrations until they get a SYE & CV driveshaft installed. I suspect they don't tell them because of how much more $$$ installing a SYE & CV driveshaft adds to the cost & that the customer may decide to do nothing. Once the 4" suspension lift is installed, they're stuck.

In the mean time, you can't just "live with" those vibrations which can start taking out the u-joints, seals, etc. I would drop that t-case down another inch until you can get a SYE/CV driveshaft. That additional inch should help a lot.

The front vibration could be nothing more than imperfect tire balance. The bigger thet tire, the more critical tire balance becomes.
When you have a choice, buy American.

SYE kit of drop the t-case with washers until you get the SYE. The longer you wait the more wear and tear on the ujoints.

Hey, I know this an old post but on gonna follow up on this issue I had a while back. I solved the issue of the steering hop, definitely was the rear drive shaft. I think the u joint was loose/warn. Found this out the hard way... let my brother drive my jeep...... get a phone call... the rear universal broke and due to that the drive shaft swung up and put a hole in my exhaust... but it did solve the issue of the hop haha.
