Violent thunking in the rear.

2003 tj sport 6 cyl auto 33s with (aussie locker?)

knocking happens only under power at low and high speeds.
happens more on a long sweeping right turn then left
also happens in a straight line

replaced the axle because the locker was slipping seeing that the springs were weak and slopping and it came out cheaper to replace the whole thing.

any suggestions?

Are you sure it is not a U-joint?

My tj used to make a loud thunking because my gas tank skid plate didnt have the straps over the top so my gas tank would bounce everytime i hit a bump. Its probably not likely thats what you hear, but it is a possibility.

Did you inspect all of your rear suspension comments and driveshaft for damage/wear? Did you install a new aussie locker or reinstall the old unit?

Turns out, the violent thunking was cause by the aussie locker not handling the 33s. Replaced with spider gears and left the locker in the front. Runs like a dream now and the driveability in comparison is unreal.

Lol. Yeah- we have a lot of toys. The contour is down since a week ago. The thing just lost power coming back from palm springs and we have yet to look at it to diagnose it
