Water Pump

My water pump started leaking in my 2005. (Started over heating)

So I got a replacement and installed however I most have done something wrong its really leaking now.

I cleaned the old gasket off till everything was shiny.

The gasket seemed cheap therefore I went to the jeep dealer today and bought one.

My question is should I use some kind of sealer?

I used "blue glue" silicone in a very thin line around the whole gasket. Mine hasn't leaked a drop ::knock on wood::

That is good news, good job. Next time, just use a paper gasket but make sure the block surface is surgically clean before mounting the new water pump and gasket. Even a smidgen of old gasket material, even if small enough that you don't notice its presence, can cause it to leak. I never use any sealant, I use nothing more than a paper gasket for the water pump and thermostat housing.

And what you discovered with the aftermarket water pump is why I always recommend only the OE water pump. The store-brand water pumps with their "lifetime warranties" are junk like Autozone and Kragens sell are short-term use only junk.

When you have a choice, buy American.
