Water pump

I have a 1997 Sport 4.0L the past couple of days I've noticed a squealing noise coming from the engine that is definitely not a fan belt issue. When I press the accelerator the noise seems to stop. This morning I came out and saw radiator fluid (the green tint of the white snow gave me this clue). I was wondering if the jeep water pumps have a weep valve like the gmc waterpumps? Also it's been a while since I've had to diagnose a water pump ( the last one just blew the impeller so diagnosis was pretty easy) do these symptoms sound like a bad pump? The jeep has 85,700 miles.

Thanks Chris

It sounds like it maybe the water pump.I have a 97 also with 158k and just replaced the water pump on it.The pump has a weep hole and mine started leaking, the shaft didnt have any slack in it.it just leaked.I picked one at advance auto for about 37.00 bucks

Yep, it sounds like your water pump is leaking through its seal which lets coolant drip out of the weep hole.

I would only go for an OE quality water pump. The so-called "lifetime" warranty store brand water pumps sold by Autozone, Kragen, etc. are cheapily made and will fail again well before an OE-quantity pump will. Their lifetime warranty is just a low-cost marketing gimmick since they realize few people own their vehicles long enough to still own it when the cheap pump failed prematurely again. My time is worth more than the cost savings are for a cheap water pump.
When you have a choice, buy American.
