Water Pump Concerns

I just bought a 2000 Jeep with the 6cy engine and 5 speed trans that runs great. Planning on a trip but am concerned about the number of comments about water pumps going bad. Should I buy a water pump as a spare in case of trouble?

Personally I'd wait until it went bad to buy a replacement, but if you're going to spend the money on a spare, why not just go ahead and put it on?

I'd wait untill it or the radiator started leaking. It'd save time to replace both of them then. That'd be a good time to replace the belts and hoses too.
My '98 went about 110k mls with some stop-leak in the radiator.

If and when you buy one do not, I repeat do not buy a rebuilt pump. Spend the money on a new one.

I would not worry about it till you need it.It is no more known for bad water pumps than any other vehicle out there that I know of.I have changed just as many starters as I have water pumps on the wrangler. If you are worried about spare parts the first things to get would be a TPS an IAC and another radiator. That is the most common things to go.Now if your water pump is dripping from the week hole or making a noise then you better pick one up just my 2 cents worth
I like for it to shine even thought it is muddy most of the time!
