Weird Gas Tank/Gauge Issue

Hey so I filled up the tank of my stock 2001, 4 cyl, auto wrangler on Friday morning. After driving ~30 miles I was shocked to see that I was 1/4 empty. (or 3/4 full for you optimists) So I was at like 8.25 mpg. I knew this couldn't be right. So I drive about 200 miles and at the end I averaged 17.5 (the gauge slowed down drastically) Not that its an issue but any ideas on whats wrong?

Only thing i can think is the Gas pump cut off early and didnt give you a full tank. Is it the first time it happened or a recurring thing?

Mine has always done weird things like that. I rely on the number of miles drived after I fill to know if I am really low. I usually get 300 miles on a tank full when commuting to and from the office. Which is every 3 days per tank.

Mine will do this as well. It'll drop through the first half of the tank really fast, but the second half seems to last for ever. I get around 14-16mpg with my 4.0L and 32's when I'm easy on it.

I havent owned a wrangler for long, but mine goes really fast from a quarter to empty, but can be that I pump one quarter of gas on my expedition with 25 gallon tank and get around for a while.

My TJ did the same thing...had the fuel sending unit changed and it fixed the problem...so I thought. Needless to say the problem came back a few months later...now I just live with it.

Mine does the same thing. Just go by mileage and remember to reset your trip odometer everytime you fill up.
