What is a microwave detector for?

Hello: I am putting in a new carpet on my 97 TJ and I uncover a small box that says microwave detector model ALA959 Carbin. The cable from that leads me to a medal box. What is this thing all about? It looks aftermarket?

Car alarm Sensor, http://dealers.magnadyne.com/MagPubl...ALA959_INS.pdf
"The ALA959is a breakthrough in modern vehicular protection technology. The ALA959 utilizes microwave technologies to create a twonzone protection field within the parameters of the interior of the vehicle.and outside the vehicle. This protection perimeter is not effected by temperature changes, wind or air movement nor small objects like birds or flying insects. The protection field detects large mass objects like a human arm or other large body part. Primarily designed for open top vehicles such as jeeps and convertibles, the ALA959 will add protection where no other sensor can."

Seems it hooks to an alarm system to act as the alarms sensor, in case people jump into a vehicle that does not have a top to bypass the doors. The metal box is it kinda tubular rectangled? that might be a motion sensor in case of being towed off or moight be the old alarm box.

If still functioning, might be able to use it to have some fun and make your jeep seem alive. Using it to detect people walking near the side of the jeep and have it hooked to set off a recording device with pre-recorded messages to go off, as if the jeep is talking to the people when they get near it.
" Hey, watch the paint, my owner just washed it!"
"I'm lost, can you tell me the way to the nearest Sand Dune?"

Just fun things to use it for, but save it, might be able to use it with any future alarm system you install if the system is equipped for extra sensor inputs.

I have the detector and that metal box the detector hooks to. Obviously, something is missing, like speakers maybe? Maybe not even hooked up. I will check today. Thanks for the responses.
