what size bolt for windshield hinge

I have a missing bolt on the hinge of the windshield by the passenger door
It is one of the bolts that everyone complains about stripping out and being hard to remove. well mine is just completely gone lol I noticed when putting on my passenger door yesterday that the top hinge was moving around a little and making it hard to put on the door because the bolt was missing.

so does anyone know the size or info I need so i can just pick one up from the hardware store?
It doesn't need to match or even use the same bit It just needs to fit properly.

I tried searching and found someone say its a 5/16-18. does that mean i can go to the store and just say thats what i need? lol im a newb here with this type of stuff, my highschool had a horrible shop teacher

Yes you can pick them up. Just take them down to the store. I got stainless pan head phillips bolts at Lowes

You have to remove them anyway to replace them. What are you going to do, buy replacements then find you can remove them?

Definitely 5/16" common thread. I have three longer replacement bolts screwed in to the same holes holding my CB antenna mount.

Did they care about the look of jeeps during WWII while being fired at by Germans? Jeeps are about function not looks =P haha just teasin ya

Since i do have an impact driver and the right tools ill probably replace all of them when I have the time and money. I need to replace alot of bolts it seems (front bumper needs some grade 5 or 8s for when im tuggin on stuff, it has budged a little from tuggin on stuff due to very soft bolts) but one day all the damn torxs will be gone.

went to the local Hardware store and gave the lady one of my hinge bolts to match. within 30 seconds she had a exact match but just stainless. well the bolt still didn't fit...so i tried one off the jeep to go into the hole....would not go in. so i tried the new bolt in a different hole and it worked great. so it looks like my problem is the threads are screwed up and thats why there wasn't a bolt there. It must have been missing since before I bought the jeep, funny how i never noticed since im under the hood of the damn thing every day.

ugh what was a simple 80 cent bolt is now a project....its a jeep thing

you really want to use an impact wrench. I used a regular torx wrench and stripped like 8 bolts. Had to drill them out.
