Yeah I am watching this one too Hound... I am doing an SYE & shaft on my 99 and I am kinda nervous about cracking the Transfer Case. I just got this grinding sound going through my head!

I have a 99 and put in a SYE years ago. Had never done it before. The only problem I had was getting the oil pickup tube and screen filter back into the case correctly. Just take your time and pay attention to how it comes apart. It's really not that hard. Hope your planning on taking it out of the jeep. I did it on the bench.

i'm actually hoping i won't have to take it out and just do it right under unless it's really not advisable

I know I couldn't do it while it's attached to the tranny. Also don't get the DS until you have everything bolted in place. Then you can get a better measurement.
Good luck.
