Whats the best replacement engine?

Have a 99, I-4 with manual trans. What is the best/easiest/least expensive engine swap. Will be running moderate tires, 31.5's, mostly communting, some mild 4 wd, looking for more tq/hp, long lasting engine/trans combination. Want to stay with 4 or 5 speed.

Thanks!

Sell your jeep and get a 6 cylinder. It will be the least cost involved and you can find what you are looking for at a great price.

I will "fit", but you will need to replace a lot of other equipment under the hood... Computer, motor mounts, transmission, fan shroud, etc. It's actually cheaper to sell and buy a new Jeep (did this at one point with my first YJ). Sorry we don't have better news.

If you have to ask what it is or what it does, you don't need it, and you will need help to install it!

The best replacement is to put the same thing in that comes out of it. That'll be the cheapest and easiest.

Supercharger is another options that wont add the weight of a 6 or an 8

I have a whole list of snappy, smart alek answers for this, along with snide comments.

BUT

I agree with the above answers. If you are unhappy with your 4 banger, sell it an buy one with a 6.

If you absolutely LOOOOVVVEE your Jeep and HAVE to keep it, just with a bigger engine, why not go small block V8 ?
