what's this wire for?

i had the hard top off over the weekend so i could clean it and i found a plug/wire in each of the round holes in the back along the top.

they line up with the defroster connections, but they're too short. are there supposed to be wires from the defroster connections to these plugs?

(yes, i know it's dirty. the guy who i bought the car from kept the top outside and didn't cover it... that's why i'm cleaning it)

I can't figure out how the hard top is oriented from that photo. I'm familiar with the hard top used on a Wrangler but I can't figure out where that photo is from.

Edit: Oh wait a minute, that's from the inside (upside-down?).... my hard top had nothing like that.

yeah, sorry... i had the hard top upside down on the ground when i took the picture. it's a picture of the top where the rear glass is attached on the drivers side.

the wire is only ~6" long and it feels like it's connected to the same harness that goes to the wiper motor.

i just went outside and took another one with my camera phone, so it's a little tough to see. the red circle is where the defroster connects, and the yellow circle is the plug. the plug is pulled out as far as it'll go and there's still a good 6" between them. the plug doesnt even look like it's supposed to connect, but i don't know what else they'd be for.

does anyone have a picture of a hard top with the rear defroster connected?

wiper motor will be more than one wire though. i'm almost positive it is defrost, either wire is stuck somewhere, or there's a springy coily wire that goes between thats missing or something.

ya i think your missing the pig tailed wire that connects the two. it would make sence because te window opens and would need some flex in the wire. and that wire you don't have. bummer.

Yep I just checked mine and it does go to the defroster terminal you have circled.I would say dave is right it should have another flexible wire between the two.Not sure cause mine comes straight out and hooks to the terminal but has plenty of slack.

Heh, that confusion is what ya get for posting that pic upside down. As the others said, those wires go to your defogger wires on the rear window.
