wheels and tires...help please

I have a 2000 4 banger automatic tranny wrangler that i am looking to purchase new wheels and tiers. The color of the jeep is the darker silver/gray. I am looking at just some black 15 inch beadlocker wheels that appear to come in a 3.75 backspacing? and also looking to put wrangler duratracs on for tires. now i know you can fit 31's on at stock height but i am a little concerned about the auto tranny with the 4 cyl engine with 31's. basicly i am just looking for a bigger tire and more agressive look for the jeep and am wondering what everyones opinion is on sizeing of wheels and tires for my application. so my questions are. 5x8 or 5x10 rim size and what backspacing to get the stance a little wider? wheel spacers? and also tire size?

thanks

15x8/ 12.5'' should do just fine but to get the look you want its a combination of things aggressive tire tread, fender flares, and lifts. IMO the lift and tire tread is the key to an aggressive look. See the examples of pictures and judge for yourself. We all have between 4'' to 6'' lifts 33''/15x8/12.5'' tires.

as you can see this Jeep dont look as aggressive as the others with those tires

To keep it a little simple like it sounds like you want you can run 31's it's easy on the 4 banger and you could probably get by with 32's. 31's are good with the 3.75" BS but with 32's you may want 4" BS. You could try a 2" BB or 3.25" RC if you want without major change to other parts. Here's my pics the 1st with 31's and a 2" BB the 2nd with 31's and the RC 3.75" You can tell the tire shop when you order wheels about how far you want the sticking out and they can order the with different offsets. I am not sure on my offset but my BS is 4" and they stick out about 2" past the edge of the fender flares.

I am not planning on lifting it at all for a while because of wanting it to still fit in my garage. (I have a short garage door opening) so you think that a set of 15x8 wheels with 31's of some sort will be fine in my application? any rubbing that might occur or will it be fine at factory height? and is the 12.5 the width of the tire?

It appears that the goodyear duratrac's only come in 31x10.50 for size? would that be fine?

yes 12.5'' is the width of tires on my 33''s. You dont have to concern yourself with that you stated you only going with 31''s so 10.5'' is the widest you can go on 31'' from what I seen.

Yes, 31x10.5's will fit fine on a stock TJ. 4"BS on the wheels is plenty. You will want an 8" wheel for a 10.5" tire. No lifting needed. Duratracs are very nice tires, I love mine. Join www.treadlightly.org and buy Duratracs before the end of the month and you get $100 rebate... FYI!

The less back spacing you have the wider the tire you can fit and the more they stick out past the flares. ^^^^^Above is not real accurate.

I'm not relating that quote to getting the wheels to stick out farther it's more of a rubbing issue. If you notice when you go bigger and wider tires how they reccommend you go more on your BS.

Fixed it for ya!

530's point about your previous statement, was that stock 5-5.5" BS is fine with a 10.5" tire. 4" BS is needed for a 12.5" wide tire. If I understand his intention in his post correctly.

And FYI your offset is 0. Offset it how far from the centerline of the wheel the mounting surface is.... Jeep wheels typically mount on the centerline.

get Aluminum 15X8's Pro Comp makes a few real nice choices that are pretty cheap. The aluminium is MUCH lighter than steel which will help your jeep feel more powerful! 31 10.50's will work real good also.
