Whining Noises

My '03 TJ is making a whining noise. It only occurs when I'm in gear and coasting. The noise goes away when I accelerate, but as soon as I take my foot off the gas, it comes back. Also, when I reverse, there is a squeeking noise in tempo with the tire rotation. It goes away when I engage the clutch.
I'm not sure if the two noises are related. My coworker has told me that I could have chipped a tooth off of my flywheel or that it could be a loose belt or belt pulley.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem(s) might be?

Any luck with the noise? My '03 TJ manual has a noticeably loud humming, whining noise when I coast. Clutch in or not. Step on the gas, noise goes away. Sounds like some drives shaft noise or transmission noise when there is no load. Looking for troubleshooting ideas.

Pull rear drive shaft. (Easy as heck) 4 8mm bolts go drive around in 4wd which is really FWD now. If noise is gone its rear shaft. If not. Pull front shaft. 8 8mm bolts and see if it goes away. Watch the caps on your u joints when pulling. Make sure they stay on. Stupid a stealership lost my needle bearings before and put driveshaft back like nothing happened. Bad stuff.
