Ok so I have a 99 wrangler 4.0 ax-15 all factory 152k on her.I noticed a high pitched whistle while accelerating from up front somewhere.Any and all gears usually from 1100rpm-1500rpm.Now it's not all the time usually randomly and if I ease off the gas while it's making the noise it will go away. It's annoying the hell out of me and I do not know where to look.Hope somebody can help!!
I have the 4.0L in a '99 Wrangler and i have the same thing. I have a K&N intake and it whistles at low rpm for the first few gears. I actually like it because it reminds me of a turbo.
The wife's jeep had a whistle under the hood and it turned out the po replaced the rear ccv line from the valve cover to the intake with a 5\8" heater hose,,, wrong thing to do as its a restricted line.
Once I fixed it no more annoying noise.
I had a whistle every time I stepped on the gas and stopped when I released. Unplugged the throttle position sensor and plugged back in after a few minutes and it stopped whistling. Hasn't done it in a few days
I had a similar noise in my "02" sport, turned out it was the bearings in my idler arm pulley/belt tensioner. If you can replicate the noise in park, under load hit it with some wd40, if it stops theirs your noise.
