Yes just use your cam.sensor instead of the 05 one. May have to swap another sensor or 2 but mounts and everything else is the same

2000-2006 coil pack motors are a direct swap
97-99 can be swapped in with some effort(brackets fabbed for coil rail) swap distributor for cam sensor

Stick to wrangler motors for best results imho

Yes but it will take some work. The motor mounts will fit, but you will be swapping the following plus some......

Complete intake with all sensors and throttle body will need swapped
Distributor swapped for cam sensor
Most of the accessories and brackets because Cherokee is way different.

That's a good start lol

Try looking here first

Steel turtle: Please explain in as much details as possible: When you say a 97-99 will fit when you change the cam sensor for the distributor. How? What are the steps and the process to make the new (older) motor run with the jeeps electronics and fire up. 2000 wrangler with hopefully 1997 motor. Thank you for all your help

Well to start with a Cherokee motor is different.
The accessory layout is different. So you will have to swap ps pump ac alternator and all brackets with your old motor.

97 is a Bastard year with sensors so most will prob not plug in. That's why you have to swap the intake.

The cam sensor is easy. Just remove the distributor and replace with cam sensor.

Basicly strip the 97 to where it's just a block head and valve cover. Then swap everything off your old motor to make it complete again
