Wind noise

Another question I have on the 2001 TJ. I bought this jeep from a cousin who's boys had the top off and on many times (hard top sport). I notice when I drive into the wind I get a good buffeting sound at high speed. It was worse before I used pieces of vacum hose in the clamp slots to tighten them. Should I still expect noise or is this a sign I need to replace the gasket across the top of the windshield? No leaks, just the noise.

Part 2: Water is coming in on both sides of the rear hatch. I've tried to find a gasket for this and can see daylight between the swing gate on both sides of the hatch. JC Whitney tells me they don't have the gasket for the "sport" hardtop....any suggestions?

LOL, you're so right. Never one to complain, I just want to make sure whether I need to lower or raise my expectations I've had soft tops many many years ago but this is the first hard top.

my hard top is in mint condition and still makes plenty of noise while driving at high speeds, not entirely sure but i think the noise is pretty normal and is to be expected

I have a 98 with a hard top.
I get quite a bit of wind noise at high speeds too,
OR if it's just plain windy outside.
Keep in mind that it's a removable top.
It's normal, don't worry about it.

My rear window seal leaks too.
Just at the top of the glass.
The hard top and seals are in great shape,
just not sealing up properly at that one point for whatever reason.
I've never figured out.
Pisses me off.
Ah well.

You might try Quadratec.com or 4WD.com for some new seals.

Replace the gasket. It's an inexpensive, standard item. You may also need to adjust your windshield. They flex, and over time can be out of square.

Your part two question confuses me: where's the gap? If it's between the top and the body, then standard hard top seals would be fine. There are kits for Jeep hardtops, but camper stores will sell rolls of more-or-less the same stuff.

I don't know what a "sport" hardtop is. All TJs use the same hardtop, as-far-as-I-know.

You're out of square. Measure your tub diagonally from back left to front right, and vice-versa. The measurements should be identical. But I bet they aren't.

This is not an uncommon problem, even with new JKs. The only time it matters is trying to get a hardtop to seal up right. Soft tops flex and adjust, so they don't care.

I agree the seal should be replaced if he's is having airflow or whistling.....
but to me, I didn't think that's what he's was describing.
