Windshield Repair

My 97 TJ SE has the typical rust on the windshield frame. Just above the passenger wiper the rust has actually bowed out the steel where it is rusting.

I had seen those Diamondplate strips on EBay that cover the area with a couple of screws, but the factr that mine has bowed out makes it so it wouldn't sit flush across.

Obviously, I can go to a junkyard and get a used one, or go online and get a replacement, but since the rest of the frame and windshield look ok I was thinking of repairing it.

It looks like on the lower strip narrow 1-2" piece (between the weld seams) you could cut that piece out and weld a new piece in. Paint it or then cover it with the Diamondplate strip I mentioned.

Has anyone tried a repair?

I ended up going to a body shop and we took a look at the repair. By the time you ar done, it ddin't make sense $$. I picked up a very good condition used windshield frame complete with glass off an 02' painted to match and installed for $400.
