My windshield reservoir bottle had a crack and was leaking so I bought a new one with new pumps. On the original one the plug for the pump faced the front of the Jeep. On the new one it faces the rear so the plug doesn't reach. There isn't enough slack in the wiring to even come close to plugging it in.
What can I do? Is there some sort of extension perhaps?
yeah, both plugs on the new bottle point towards the windshield and the old bottle had the front plug facing the front of the jeep so the harness could reach. i just sold my hardtop so i'm just leaving the rear pump unplugged
Cut the wires, extend them with some wire and your choice of connection(i recommend soldering and shrink tubing, but butt connectors should do fine). The wiring section at walmart or an auto parts store, normally next to the car speakers, will have everything you need.
so after i reinstalled the new bottle my check engine light came on. went to o'reilly's to check it - P1494 leak detection pump pressure switch.
is this because i don't have the pumps plugged in? i need to extend the wiring to plug the front pump in but i was intending to leave the rear pump unplugged since i no longer have the hardtop and don't want someone accidentally hitting the switch and pumping washer fluid through the hose in the rear of the jeep. should i just hook it up but cut the hose going to the back under the hood or it that engine code something else?
ok so i guess i should have searched first since p1494 isn't because of the washer pumps. unrelated and just a coincidence to me unplugging the pumps i guess.
so posts say its the gas cap and other say it could be a hose under the hood. where and what do i need to look for?
Look at the lines around the leak detection pump. You might have knocked one loose or pushed a brittle one over the edge. A year or so ago I found one the elbows deteriorating.
is the ldp near the reservoir bottle? it was a tight fit getting my hand in there and i could have moved lines around if it's near it. was googling for ldp location on an 03 wrangler but couldn't find an image
On my 98 the evac pump is on the big shelf I front of the brake master cylinder
Only calif cars had them in 98
On the rear pump no one can accidentally turn it on as power for the rear pump makes a circuit thru the hardtop harness plug
It travels from the switch to the rear hardtop plug then makes a loop turn back thru the hardtop plug then back thru tub to the actual pump
That way if rear hard top is unplugged the pump cannot run
ok. the reservoir plug was a easy fix. thanks Digger84 for pointing out that the pumps rotated. i just rotated it back to face the front and plugged it in. however, still nothing comes out of the washer nozzle. i checked the line for blockage. why wouldn't this thing be working? fuse? i didn't see any labeled for something obvious.
You could have welded the old washer bottle with a soldering iron and stips of winshiled washer plastic bottle. Both made from high density poliethylen plastic. But I'm a little late here.
I'll bet you plugged in the rear sprayer pigtail instead of the windshield sprayer pigtail. (Unless I misunderstood above where you said you didn't plug the back sprayer in?)
i tried them both. neither one seems to be running when i pull back the windshield washer lever. had my wife pull it back while i listened to see if the pumps were running and heard no noise at all.
could it be the actual switch on the steering column itself? the wiper switch on the right side of the steering column? i changed the multifunction switch on the left side of the column that controlled the lights and fog lights. could the left one be bad? the wipers work, everything else on the switch works. you pull it in towards the driver to activate the washer pumps. could just that one action be broken and how can i test that before spending $100 on that part?
