Wrangler acting weird at high speed

Hi I notice that whenever I'm on the highway If I achieve 55 or higher the jeep begins to jerk, whats weird is this problem does not occur below 55, and I cannot get the check engine light to stay on long enough to determine the problem, any idea what this could be?

I have a 97 wrangler

When you say jerk, do you mean as in engine (skipping) or in suspension (DW). Does the MIL come on only when the "jerking" starts? Does it smooth out if you increase or decrease speed? A little more info about the problem may help us narrow down what it could be.

If the CEL flashes on it should still be in memory. Stop by an autoparts store and have them read the stored codes.

The engine seems to skip and unfortunately it does not seem to smooth out until I decrease the speed (i.e. drive below 55mph) this always occurs right after I shift from 4th to 5th gear. The jerking is something like every 20-30 seconds..
