WTF: My lock cylinder fell out

so when i first got the jeep, i know the lock cylinder in the tailgate was fine and operational. a couple weeks later, i took the top off and had no use for locking the tailgate. fast forward to today. i put my top back on and drove to work today. went to lock the tailgate, and the lock cyliner was cockeyed sitting about 1/2 inch out of the tailgate. wtf?! i pushed it (forced) back in and now it spins freely, even pulls out of the hole freely. what gives, what borke it? no signs of anyone prying on it, nor would anyone have had the need too..

anyway, anyone know whats involved to replce the cylinder? it can't be that hard of a job. oh, and how much $?

TIA.

Probably just the U-shaped clip that holds the lock in place popped off. It's probably sliding around inside the gate. This is something you could probably do fairly easily yourself if you get in there.

that was exactly it, thanks! didn't even require tools other than an extending magnet to fish the clip out of the tailgate.

now, i would be much happier about such an easy fix if, on my way home from work, my jeep didn't throw a CEL.

I knew you would be the one to say something...

If you recall, I used to give out lots of help in the beginning of the forum. For awhile now, there have been so many knowledgeable people in here, I don't get too technical, because I have to think too much. It's more fun to be laid back and just go with it.

You get an A for effort. I have an opinion on it. If you want, PM me and I think I can help you out, bigjeep.
