So I found this at home depot yesterday and thinking of getting it for storage in the back of my jeep. Basically a 50 gallon locking tub that I would bolt when the back seat brackets used to be, what do you guys think?

ok so im hoping that one of the hardcore builders can help me with a build question. ive been looking around and decided that re-gearing and putting lockers in my dana 30/35 would be a kinda bad idea, so i was wondering what all it would take to possibly put the dana 40/44 out of a rubicon into my jeep and re-gear it, possible beef up the lockers. im not looking to make this thing a full trail rig yet, just the occasional off roading trip and moab run with the WF, so thats why im not thinking the ford 8.8 yet.

The lockers are fine on the rubicon axles no need to mess with them ecspecially if its just a weekend wheeler. The front axle is a dana 44 diff with 30 axles the rear is a true 44. They come stock with 4.10 so if your running 31's right now youll be fine. To get them under the jeep you need to cut off all the brackets and weld on spring perches and shock mounts. On the front you need to weld on sway bar mounts too. Dont worry about the trac bars yjs dont need them. Regearing them will be the same as any axle let a shop do it its normally around 1100 to 1400 for both axles to be regeared thats parts and labor included.

Thanks for the info man, and it will eventually turn into a true trail rig, just need a second vehicle first lol. And I'd do the re-gear myself. And I wonder how much of a pain in the a$$ it would be to put in all the stuff for the coil springs, even tho im kinda trying to stay with leaf. Are coils better for off roading?

Ahhh regearing is not an easy task unless you have prior experience doing it I'd let a experienced mechanic do it. As far as coils versus leafs. Coils will have more flex by the book but in my eyes its all personal preference I'd stay with the leafs I like it better not as many things that could go wrong. Swaping to coils you'd need to weld on coil mounts shock mounts and control arm mounts to the chasis and need it all aligned properly or the suspension wont perform correctly.

well ive got the mechanical experience cuz its what i do, been doing it since i could hold a wrench lol, just never done a regear, so im loking to learn. and if there is a way that i can put on the rubi axles and leave on my leafs (which i prefer) then im going to do it, shouldnt be any harder then welding the bracket on the underside of the axle (or top if i decide to do SOA)

You gotta love all of the little things you run into with a 24 year old Jeep. You are off to a good start. I know that they are cute when they are stock, but you gotta hury up and get some lift and tires on that beast.

I'm trying, but I gotta finish the little stuff before I think about the heavy stuff... And I'm going to be dropping about $1500 on another car so I can at least still get around

I don't even have kids and that's where I'm at... Might pull the motor too and rebuild it as well, make the thing into a fresh new beast.

Alright got some ?'s for other YJ guys that have done tranny work.
1: how many bolts hold the tranny to the motor?
2: is a hydraulic throwout bearing the same as the internal slave cylinder or no?

don't know on #1. but hydrolic throwout bearing sounds like they are talking about the slave cylinder whch moves the throwout bearing.

Glad to hear that you are making some progress. I have worked on my Jeep for about 20 minutes in the last two weeks. My goal of having the V8 out ot the grand cherokee before winter has kinda failed miserably. it is currently -7 outside...i think that sounds like winter and the engine is still about 6 hours of work away from being pulled out.
