1988 YJ Intermittent OEM Gauges

Ok Guys,

I am having an intermittent problem with my stock fuel & oil pressure gauges. When the fuel gauge reads correct the oil pressure gauge goes to zero. The the fuel gauges goes passed fully the oil pressure gauge read correctly. And sometimes not often both will read corectly. Any ideas where to start?

Thanks in advance

sounds like you have a ground problem. probably the only thing that will cause simultanious(sp) gauge problems other than a total power failure. the ground is #g101. i would think it is some where close to the gauge area.

My Voltmeter gauge shows me 18V all the times mostly.
What Do I need to do, to repair it?
Clean connections?

After I got my gauges working developed a problem with the oil pressure gauge. It was intermittant gauge check good. Replaced the oil pressure sending switch.

OK spoke to soon on my intermittant oil pressure gauge. Went to start the Jeep this morning no oil pressure on the gauge. Drove it down the road and about 15 minutes later oil pressure started reading. Went to lunch started the Jeep no oil pressure reading on the gauge but, it eventully started reading. Tonight I am going to put a direct read gauge on to check oil pump pressure. If the oil pressure is good I am going to pull the gauge cluster out an recheck the connections. All my other gauges are fine.

Does anybody have any ideas to look. Maybe ground issue?

Ok, I have all my gauges working. The problem with the oil pressure was the actual oil pressure gauge. I replaced the oil pressure sending unit twice and stillhad zero oil pressure readings. Installed a mechanical gauge engine was putting out 65-70 PSI. Since I have two other gauge cluster I swapped out the oil pressure indicator and the oil pressure now works....
