1988 YJ Speedometer Cable issue

I have a 1988 YJ that I am fixing up for my son. The speedometer wasn't working so I purchased a new cable from Morris. Install to transfer case was a little tough. It didnt go in as easy as the old one, but I finally got it in but it is not spinning when I drive it. Can anyone advise? I don't have to tell ya how important it is for my 16 year old son to know how fast he's goin....appreciate any help Thanks....Patrick

did you verify that the end that goes into the speedo isnt spinning?

try spinning the end that goes in the speedo with your fingers, if you can, it isnt seated into the gear in the t-case. if you cant spin it, then that end is ok. and its the dash side that is giving you the problem.

plug it back into the dash speedo and take it off the t-case. chuck the end into your cordless drill, and you have to turn it counter-clockwise or in reverse in the drill to check the speedo head.
