1989 4.2 engine and trans swap

I am considering swaping out a 4.2 litre carborated motor and 3 speed automatic transmission with a 1990 4.0 fuel injected motor and 4 speed automatic transmission out of a Cherokee. The new motor and transmission both need computers. What kind of issues will I have to deal with? Wireing the computers? Transmission shifter is on the column now. Will I have to go to a floor shifter? Should I go another way?

Thanks

Neal

The transmission went out and the motor has low compression.

An engine swap is always more expensive than people let on. Especially if you can't do all the work by yourself. The computer from a junk cherokee same year should work as long as it serviceable. BUT the best bet would be to find a donor motor/trans that has the CPU & wiring harness with it all complete. Your linkage is going to be different on the transmission as well, but it may be an easy mod (I really don't know how much different the linkage is).
