The best I can say is keep reading up on novaks site. What exactly are you looking for? Carburated or fuel injection? Standard or Automatic? Your stock transfercase is a np231j and can be used in the swap.

My thinking is a mid-eighties 5.0, the MASS injection one ideally..my goal is just to get some smooth torque - just more of it - and that nice v8 rumble If I can find a normally aspirated motor I'm not opposed to that, either. May even favor that due to my ECM-phobia.

the more I think about it, the more skeert I get. The electronics are scary, but also:

fuel pump/gas tank can stay the same? power steering?

recommend hooking to the ax15(?) tranny, so I can stay with jeep driveline components, yea? currently I got teh four banger, and everything on novak says my stock tranny won't hold up. Heck, I'd even consider an auto tranny, it ain't like I'm rock crawling.

Any thoughts?
Ummm, I am gonna finish the ole ladys truck before I do anything...then I've gotta get my dually project under control as I have a couple of magazines wearing me out over it...then I will do the jeep. But I have been thinking about doing the jeep at the same time as the dually.

The electronics are easy, I have it down to 5 wires that you have to hook up. My first one was a 349 stroker and it was a screamer in a YJ so I am thinking about building another one for this project. It all depends on what your doing with it, but I wouldn't trust any stock jeep tranny after how many I have sold to people who have blown them up. I am gonna use a NP435 because I have one and they are bulletproof...no overdrive but I'm not worried about that. You could use a ZF tranny instead and get the overdrive back. I never use the stock fuel pump because its not enough gas for what I build, but the pump I use is cheap.

Has anyone on the Forum tried this route? EZ EFI
FAST EZ EFI systems

Also, search for "EZ EFI" on Youtube.

I'm look for fuel injected I think. What would you recommend? And standard not automatic. And would you recommend keeping the np231j for the swap or upgrading. I've read places that with certain swaps you lose your option to switch to 4wd I want to keep that option

Fuel injections a good route to go I'm just going carburated because I like the oldschool stuff and dont wont to deal with a computer and sensors. But fuel injection does give more power and better gas mileage. So if your up to the task go for it theres only benifits from fuel injection. Standard or automatic....how much do you plan to wheel, is it going to be a daily driver? The np231j I would most deffinetly recommend keeping with the swap. It offers better gas mileage because you can have it in 2wd when your just driving on the road, every aspect of it is upgradable and theres a ton of parts for them. As far as losing 4wd I never heard of that unless you wanted to. The thing is you will have to ditch the vaccum system that gets the front wheels spinning, but thats not a big deal you can get a posi lock cable so the front end is activated by a cable thats routed to the cab instead of the crappy vaccum. But again how much wheeling are you going to be doing and what kind of wheeling are you going to be doing? Also are you going to be bumping up the power of the motor? If so how much power are we looking at here?

Goose(heh),
Do you include O2 sensor in your builds? Or short it, or something else entirely?

Idk I don't plan on doing a whole lot of wheeling but when I do I usually just go mudding no rock crawling or anything and it won't be a daily driver. And idk what you mean bout bumping up the power of the motor

The AX-15 is only rated for around 350ft#'s if I remember correctly. A stock V8 will be ok, but if you stroke one like I always do, your juggling a grenade lol

lol ummmmm, if you leave a v8 stock you will be ok...if you increase the horsepower/torque your gonna eventually blow the tranny if you stay with a stock AX-15

Better?

That question is a huge can you can open if you want. Everyone has a different option on how to make power....so I will leave that alone. I'd save up for a motor and tranny and then sell your stuff when you are ready while it still has value

your engine and tranny

4 cylinder stuff is gold in the resale world man...I sell 4 banger stuff 5 to 1 over 6 stuff mainly because they blow up easier

engine depending on miles is worth 600-1200 bucks and your ax5 is worth a minimum of 500

seriously then I'd say just get a ax15 and stock 350 sounds like it would be good for your needs.

A jeep that had a 4.0 in it would have it. Obviously it would have to be standard.

A ton. When getting your 350. If you get fuel injected make sure you also take the wiring harness computer and all the sensors. That is a must. After you get your 350 and ax-15 send me a pm and I'll get more into detail with you about it.

Because the ax15s usually don't blow up, and they are behind a 4.0 only. All the 4 cylinder stuff is gold because it blows up about 5 times more often
