1990 2.5l tbi

About 3 weeks ago after hitting some trails she didn't want to go over 2000 rpm in any gear and would occasionally backfire. I replaced the fuel filter and catalytic converter, tested the throttle position sensor and checked out the injector and pump when I thought it might be the fuel system. Then she just stopped cranking about 3 days ago. It's definitely not the fuel system. I can smell the fuel going to the engine when I turn it over. It just turns over constantly but won't crank. Then I discovered I'm not getting a spark I tested the ignition coil and it reads perfect. I replaced the cap and rotor, still the same. I replaced the ignition control module today and still the same. I'm absolutely lost now. Any more ideas of what it could be? I really don't want to have to take it to a shop but I'm out of ideas.

Update::: Put new crankshaft sensor in today and still nothing. Checked for spark again, this time with a friend, and I have spark. So I have spark and fuel in the engine but no start. Timing off perhaps?

I hope you mean it cranks but wont fire...

Now that you have spark, change the spark plugs, Im sure you soaked them with fuel, and you'll never get it all out of the porcelain.

Next time your cranking the engine, have a friend look in the oil cap and make sure the rocker arms are moving, Id hate to see you dumping money into and engine with a busted timing chain.

I changed the plugs as soon as I got spark. Found out today that someone that was around when I had the dist cap off turned the rotor about 1/2 a turn. So now I'm going to try to time everything and see she'll run now. Never done it before so it should be fun.
