1990 2.5L YJ sounds like a Diesel

I replaced the pre-heater hose and the entire exhaust system, still sounds like a diesel and has a flapping sound when accelerating. I assume I have an exhaust manifold leak. Is this a big issue or should I just deal with the noise, it doenst really bother me.

Ok, sounds like I should probably replace it. This raises two new questions:

1 - Is it a terrible thing to replace

2 - For diagnosis, would I literally be able to see a crack? Like I said, I dont know that I cracked the exhaust manifold...but it sure sounds like something is messed up.

And no engine check light, but its totally possible the light isnt working anyway.

You said you did something? Sure something is just not tightened correctly?
Take her to Autozone and have scanned.

I have a Tj and the earlier models were prone to cracking not sure about the Yj. My intake gasket was bad and would whistle really load in the morning. Also triggered an 02 code until I had it replaced.

No, I didnt do anything to the exhaust manifold...the reason I say its possible the light isnt working is just because it was not in good shape when I got it. I bought it and the exhaust was basically non-existant, after replacing that and the pre-heater hose I 2.5L YJs, maybe it should just be super loud? Its really the fluttering that gets me when I accelerate...

Def a symptom of an exhaust leak but having it scanned is your best bet. Is it emissions tested yet? A bad exhaust leak will cause a bunch of problems, some minor and possibly major. can kill your gas mileage and engine performance
