1990 YJ 4.2 with carb problems

Carburator seems to act up frequently as the motor sat for three years prior to the install. What does everyone recommend.... rebuild kit or a better alternative. Is this a common mount for various brands ? I really wanted to avoid buying a three hundred dollar replacement if at all possible. Thanks

you could try a rebuild kit, but if it doesn't work then you wasted time and money only to have to get a new carb. you could also get a master craft carb. a lot of guy do that swap and are very pleased with the results.

Easy to rebuild. Kit is only about 25 bucks. If you don't want to buy a new one cheap way to go. Also after you rebuild it do the nutter bypass.

Thats interesting... a two barrel ford f-150 carb will work. Any particular series or years ? Never had alot of luck with kits. Seems the moving parts have too much play and it never runs the same. Thanks for the info.

With the ford carb I assume one needs a base adaptor. Where might this be located or called ? Is there such a thing as a simple edelbrock 2 barrell that would be a bolt on ? All a guy would want is a manual choke, air and fuel mixture adjustments. Mine looks like a rubber hose maze with electrical connections going no where. Its for off road so I wouldn't be looking to get it emission tested.

You've got the computer feed-back carb. Those are a pain to get running right The best thing to do is smash it with a really big hammer. I put an older Carter off of a CJ on mine. I really wanted to do the Motorcraft 2100 series carb on it. There is a guy on Ebay that sells a ton of these. He completely rebuilds them & includes the adpter plate & all neccessary bits & pieces to make it work. It is a very complete kit with great tech support. He even includes his home phone number if you have any questions. They sell for about $300. I will try this when my Carter finely takes a dump on me. Just do a search for Motorcraft 2100 carb Jeep. It ought to bring it up
