1990 YJ 4WD issue

I have a 90 YJ, 6 cyl, 258...with automatic trans. I think the vacuum lines are gone on it. It seems like it will engage when I shift it into 4 wheel, but doesnt drive right. Its possible the vacuum lines arent there and Im looking for a procedure to test this and see what I need. Anybody have a step by step??? Thanks

few things you can do..1st check to make sure the lines are hooked into the vacuum disconnect located at the front passenger side axle tube. You could put the jeep up on jackstands and put it in 4wheel drive and see if the front tires move.. OR a gravel road works to see if the front is getting traction from a stop..works best with two people, one looking to see if the fronts are pulling from a fast take off. Worst case you can pin the passenger side axle collar in place(inside the vacuum disconnect) with washers to get 4wd working.. note most front driveshafts are not balanced and some folks report some vibs on the road when they do this.

Forget the posi lock. Lock it over for good. I have the posi lock and I wish I just locked it over for good.

You can lock it for good using some washers, or buy a kit off morris 4x4 for 50$

Fixes it for good.
If I could go back, I would have done that, because I keep mine locked in 90% of the time

It's my Dailey driver too

Well not sure I want my jeep in 4 wheel all the time, especially considering gas mileage.

Posilock is a fine option and not hard to install as long as you are able to turn a wrench and drill through the firewall. I would set aside about 2 hours for the job and can finish it in the garage/parking lot wherever.

There are cheaper places to find them, I got mine for $100 shipped

it doesnt lock it in 4wd it turns your front drive shaft from a 3 piece shaft to a regular 2 piece (like the tj)
you still have to engage the transfer case to get 4wd

If you thought it locked it in 4x4 all the time you probably should have done more research before you installed the posi lock.
