1990 YJ valve cover leaks..with pics

Hey all,

First time posting. The comanche club is not allowing me to join so
I'm here in the wrangler forum to get some advice on the 1990 YJ I purchased the other day.

I am new to the jeep scene so forgive any redundant talk. It's a YJ 1990 comanche 2.5L 4 speed manual. So far I love driving it around the mountain.

Oil is leaking from the valve cover. Its collecting on the ground verrryyy little.
There is also oil on the drip pan and on the area around the drip pan.

i tightened valve cover bolts. Just about all of them were not fully tightened.
Its leaking still but less.

I keep hearing talk about valve gasket cover, rear main seal, and valve seal.
Also I heard some post talk about bellhousing. not sure what it is but if its the big ass bell right below the valve cover toward the engine rear it has NO oil on it.

I took some pics.

Your valve cover gasket might be going out, like mine, and it shouldn't be that much to get one at like autozone or O'rielly, whatever parts place is near u

A bomb of knowledge for ya since I spent 2 months trying to get mine fixed on my 90. First all 2.5 uses abs valve covers that suck royally. Second they leak constantly. Third your choice of gaskets is a coin toss. First I went straight rtv. Then I went rubber. Then I did both. I have such bad blow by it pours out the top of the oil filler either way and I had to make peace with that but it doesn't spray oil all under the hood anymore. Good luck. They're $40 and should be easy to find. If u only want to do the gasket be careful prying it off or it'll crack. And tighten the bolts carefully. Most importan part.
1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ. 2.5L. Bone Stock, mostly.

Thats one of those Jeep things the 4.0L do that too alot. I use the cork gasket that seams to work well for a while.

If your PCV is working you shouldnt have recurring leaks....

My 90 YJ 2.5 doesn't leak a drop.... well... from the valve cover.....
