I've had a 1992 4.0L L6 Wrangler for a couple months now. A week ago I began having clutch issues which in turn caused me to stall it out multiple times. I eventually got it off the road. I'm obviously still have clutch issues. Most likely it is clutch master cylinder related, but more importantly I can no longer start it. Not sure if they are related or just coincidence???
I checked to see if I was getting a spark out of my spark plugs and realized that I was not. I then checked my coil and replaced it, but that didn't fix it. I am not getting a spark from it either. So it must be whatever comes before that. Computer, relays, other? Any help would be appreciated.
Forgot to say: It does crank, but just won't fire. I put jumper cables on it just to make sure and it definitely doesn't seem to be a starter problem...
wow this seems to be a common prob today um i would say ignition control module i'v heard that they can cause this sort of thing or it could be a crank position sensor
My 94 2.5 is having the same issues and it has me stumped. I tried the crank pos. sensor and it didnt help at all. I just started a post trying to gain somemore knowledge from this forum in hopes to get my YJ back on the road and in the mud....
I have 88 6cyl I have replaced coil and dist. Just no spark getting 7v to coil and the same coming out. Getting changed value(don't know the correct value) coming out of the dist to trigger the ECU or whatever it is called behind the glovebox. So I don't think it is the coil pick up is good but no spark to plugs. :banghead:
OK jeep cg I'm pretty sure ur prob is the ignition control module under the windshield wiperfluisd resivour u should look into the nutter conversion it bypasses the factory ecu gives u better power and little more reliable personaly i would find some of the posts on here that detail ignition control mod probs and see if their are any symptoms that match urs
I was thinking that it may be clutch related, but then you said that it will at least crank. It could be the ICM as Morphious said. I think mine cost about $60 and is real easy to install. It is worth a try.
I had the same problem, cranks, power to coil, but not out of..try the ICM like these guys suggest first, they all know alot more than I do... but also try cleaning the connections on the ECU...I ended up just needing a new ECU.
I just replaced my crankshaft position sensor, and it fired right up. Woohoo!
