Hi all, I'm new to this forum so bear with me...I've had numerous jeeps over the years '87yj, '05 TJ, I have a 2007 JKU and I just bought a new project. She's a 1992 YJ Renegade. I've always like the Miami Vice look of the renegade package, but I know the renegade is not a popular model...in fact the YJ itself is the retarded stepchild of the jeep family and the renegade package is his helmet, but I happen to like it.
I don't want any smart comments about how crappy you think the renegade is, I'm looking for genuine answers here...with that being said, I have a cracked front fender flare and I am having a tough time finding a replacement. Does anyone know if anyone manufactures a replacement fender flare for the renegade?
Cheers
Not available that I know of. Your best bet would be call around a junk yard and see if they have any. Might ask a body shop and see if it could be repaired with fiberglass.
I too have the redheaded stepchild of the yj world and it's hard to find replacement parts for the body kit. I have a crack and small dent in mine and will be using fiberglass and body filler to fix it prior to re-painting.
Thanks guys, that's what I figured. I looked into the type of plastic these flares are made of. It's a semi-flexible TPO plastic. Apparently using Fiberglass to repair cracks will not last. There is adhesion issues and eventually the repair will fail with expansion and contraction cycles with weather changes. I've read that TPO plastic can be repaired with a plastic welder with a specific type of plastic weld rod, bit of a pain...genes the question of replacement flares. Oh well. Need to source out a plastic welder I guess.
Cheers!
Also new here and have had 2 Wranglers, 91 and 94 Renegade, Loved the 91 but sold it, as soon as I found another Renegade with the right price, I jumped for it. So you can see I myself likes the Renegade
I have a '91 renegade and absolutely love it. I'm new to the whole jeep thing but I've always had a crush on them and the renegade package has grown on me. I haven't seen any fenders though I do think the plastic welder is your best bet though.
Nice renegade pics guys. I managed to repair the fender with JB Plastic weld. I thought I would try it first, before I spend the money on a plastic welder. I v-grooved the crack and drilled the end to stop the spread. I drilled holes to allow zip ties to hold the crack together while I filled the groove with the premixed plastic JB compound. It took 30 mins to fully cure. It sand nicely and maintains flexibility and structure. I need to repeat the process on the rear side of the crack, sand, body filler, then prime and paint.
I'll post a picture on my repair so far, then update as I make progress.
There is a renegade sitting down the road from me. I always thought those flares were an aftermarket kit like those Hummer kits that used to be available. I never knew it was factory.
