1994 YJ 4.0 Engine seized Virginia Beach, VA

I just got a Jeep (still waiting for the title to get to me, so not spending any money on it just yet) and the 4.0 engine is seized/hydrolocked.

I did already put a new starter on it hoping for the best...had my fingers crossed....realized I should have tried to turn the crank first. WHATEVER.

Anyway, long story short, the shop I dropped my Jeep off at is saying it is best to buy a running motor out of another vehicle ($875). My question (s) is: Is that the best route? Is there a better route? What should a shop be charging for an engine and labor?

Sorry for the newbie questions. Of note: PO said he slid off into deeper water, front left ended up under and motor shut itself off/would restart, got towed. Also, I am much to busy to tear engine apart, but i can spare enough time to fiddle if it saves me $2000 on engine/labor rates!

Looks like all the advice from local shops is $1600-2200 for used replacement engine. Is there anything I should make sure to have them do since I'll be spending that much money?

If you have the know how, do it yourself and instead of the 6 do an 8 for the same price? That's my advice. If the engine is seized your not going to be able to do much other then to either swap it or rebuild it. And personally not knowing what the PO did to it, id go the swap route.

Went for the swap. Just getting her back on the road and running great! Gonna clear her up and put her on down the road to a new owner.
