1994 YJ review

I'm looking at possibly buying a 1994 YJ 4 cylinder with about 165k miles. They are asking $5k. Any advice on the price or trouble areas to look for when test driving it?

Also, how tough it is to find used hard tops and doors? Thanks, in advance.

I'd pass. A 20 year old jeep with that many miles and a 4 cylinder to boot. No way. Maybe for $2K.

That's about the median price for a decent one. If its not rusty and runs out well it's worth it.

I guess it depend where you live, but I still respectfully disagree. Just sold my 93 YJ with 130K miles in fantastic shape for $4500 (6 cyl) and that was top top dollar around Ohio.

Rusty? That jeep would bring 7500 here, I sell them for that all day long. And any running jeep of any condition is worth 2K in just parts

What about a 94, 111k miles on it, no top no doors, asking 4500 for it. Hows that sounding in price?

That seems a little much. I am getting my first YJ jeep '95 on Friday. 84k miles, good condition for $3500. Just need to touch up the paint.

I just bought a 94 in Tampa fla. for $3600.00 but it needed the entire front end repaired. I'm pretty handy with a wrench so I fixed it cheep. While I was looking to buy one, there were a lot of really bad ones out there for anywhere from 3500 to 5000. some even had rusted out frame rails.

Honestly, I'd rather spend another 2-3K and get a TJ. Just my opinion though. I've owned both and did enjoy my YJ.

5K is too high in my opinion. I paid $2200 for my 93, had around 100,000 miles on it. And your top and doors question. They arent too hard to find on Craigslist, but they wont be cheap. The good thing is you can use CJ tops and doors on the YJ, so that expands your search a bit.

It is solid. No frame rust. Very minimal rust on the tub. Actually only in two small spots, cracked windshield, easy $20 fixes here and there. I ended up putting in a new clutch about three months after buying it, but other than that, nothing major wrong. I think the guy just wanted to get rid of it. Im in KY

I picked up my 95 in space coast FL for 5700 but it had no rust and all the goodies... black diamond lift kit with shackle reversal, and revolver shackles, bilstein shocks, dynatrac d60 axles with ARB airlockers, hard top, soft top, bikini top, etc. etc.

I bought my 94 for 3500. Absolutely no rust. It has the 4 cyl motor. The worst thing is the ax5 transmission. I just replaced the one in mine. The good news its is easy to swap the motor out to either the 4.0 straight 6 or a 350
