1995 wrangler 2.5 wont run in rain!? help!

so I just got my wrangler Tuesday, runs amazing, the wednesday came around and it was storming, I took it out got about a mile down the road, hit a puddle the got maybe a quarter of a mile down the road then it just died, after the rain stopped about 3 hours later i drove over there and it cranked back up and drove fine, and has ever since, now i got out with a hose with it idling to try and make sure it wassnt a fluke, and it did it again when i got the hose under around the passenger side behind the front wheel, Any suggestions!? i know its not th distributor cap, its a 1995 2.5 engine

this is the area where fuse and relay box is just in front of battery and I think the starter is there also lower of course. I wouldn't think it would matter but check ground straps and also look to see if water is somehow making it up there. Is a real puzzle..Driller

i just went out to try and pin down the problem, so i got a stray bottle, and strayed what I think was the starter? (below the engine, has positive connector directly from the battery) and it cut out when it got sprayed, so im thinking of covering in electrical tape for now and ordering somthing more waterproof

Sounds like the connection at the starter is corroded or loose.

But why would a bad connector only be effected when it rain and then crank and run fine once the rain stops? could it be something with the alternator? sorry guys I'm new to the jeep scene im more of a motocross guy

The coil is mounted on the side of the engine below the battery and fuse box, check for cracked wire or coil, go out at night start your jeep look down into this area and see if you can see any small sparks from the coil or coil wire going to the dist. cap. Maybe even mist the coil with your spray bottle.

I forgot to add the jeep should be in a dark place with NO LIGHTS so you can see the sparks.

It sounds like you are causing a short. Check ALL of your connections and cables on the starter to make sure that nothing is shorting out. They should be relatively CLEAN, and solid.

How do you know it's not the distributor?
Have you checked under the cap for moisture immediately after it cuts out?

I know it's not the distributor because I can use a squirt bottle and not even get it near to the distributor, it's going to the mechanic this week so we'll see!

Had a similar issue, moisture was getting in the coil power wire connection and it would not start. Dried it out applied dielectric grease and then coated with battery terminal stuff. Also used dielectric grease to the coil wire
