1995 Wrangler YJ RPM issue

So today I get in my YJ and jeep starts up fine and then when I get to 2000 rpm's it wont go any higher. It is almost like as soon as it it 2001 rpm the vehicle is in neutral and just revs up.... Anyone know what this might be??

The engine is automatic. Someone told me it sounded like transmission issue.
Any help would be awesome?

Does it go any higher on RPMS? Does it sound almost like the trans is trying to do something and just can't? Pull your trans dipstick and what color fluid is it and does it smell like burnt crayons?
