Question 2.5 Performance Mods

Done some research on this topic and still not quite satisfied. Are there any mods you can do to a 4-banger that REALLY make a difference in terms of performance?

Regearing is the best bang for buck power mod IMO. Can be pricey depending on area and shops labor charge. Long term .... Money best spent IMO

The best thing I did was a regear to 4:88s.

All the rest of what you do to the engine are minimal gains with an increase but it's still a four banger.

At the time I did the 8.8 swap so now no fear of breaking axles.

Run 70 all day on the flat at 3K.

Best I got

You run 70 on the flat at 3k with 4.88 gears?? I have the stock 4.10 gears running 33 inch tires and i run 2900-3000 RPM at 70.

Upgrade to a 4.0L lol. I'm looking at getting an XJ with the 4.0 cuz the 2.5L YJ isn't cutting it.

Not really a mod, but you might want to run seafoam through your gas tank a few times to help clean out some engine gunk, that stuff made a big difference in mine. When I first got it, it was chugging like a boat, ran some sea foam through it and she runs way smoother and quieter now.

I pulled the cones out of the air box, not sure if that made a difference.

Did you change the speed-O gear?
