2.5L to a diesel thread

It's time to brake away from the original thread and as I said there, forgive my laziness (or blindness ) if there is one I didn't see.
In any case, here is a thread dedicated to swapping 2.5L with a diesel
From what I read by far there are three major players:
- BT series (BT4 being the most common swap)
- 3.0 Turbo Mercedes
- 1.8/1.9 TDI VW
Whoever has done any of them or any others please post either a reference to original thread or feel free to do a complete writeup with pictures if you can.
We all (diesel wanting 2.5's) kindly appreciate it

there was a guy that did a 3.3L cummins swap on a yj back in 2006. was an industrial engine and about 200lbs. lighter than the 3.9 4BT. was getting 30-32mpg. had 3.07 rear gear whic the engine was origionally a 4.2L carb. trying to get it in cruising range of 1600-1800 rpm to not overrev it. Hadn't thought of this conversion before. said with a 2 in. lift it would allow no hood mods. will try and find links.....Driller

I was researching it with a 1.8/1.9 tdi motor and looks like you can find one from $5xx and up. However in the process of the research I got one thing bugging me - I was under impression that 1.8/1.9 are similar to their newer 2.0. So I guess the question is if I can use a 2.0 instead of 1.8/1.9? It would be more interesting. Wouldn't you agree?

Please submit a link to your thread here when you start. Good luck with the swap. Can't wait for details. This is going to be my next big swap I'm planning to do. Just gathering bits and pieces of information right now. Your thread should be an awesome writeup. Make a lot of pix. Good luck again

at the rate the gas is right not the difference in consumption will return the original investment in probably in a couple of years tops if you do the conversion yourself. do the math.

Here is a link to my build thread. Jeep TJ and a 4bt diesel
I will say that site has by far the most info on diesel swaps I have ever seen. As with all internet sites you need to weed out the BS from facts, from opinions based on poor foundation.
There are some basic questions you need to ask yourself, and some info I would be happy to give you before you start.
First this is not a cheap swap. You will not save enough fuel to recover the cost within a reasonable timeframe. I used a Cummins 4bt (it is not called a BT4) and this engine will rarely give you 20mpg+. mid teens is more realistic. My Jeep is built for off road only so i didn't care about mileage. Look around the 4btswaps site for other Jeep swaps there are many. Do not worry so much about finding a YJ specific swap CJ,YJ,TJ are all close enough for all intents and purposes here.
List the reasons you want to do a diesel swap.
List what your expectations are.
How much do you have to spend?
What is your planned use for this Jeep?
Auto or manual trans?
Can you weld and fabricate?
Are you used to diesels and all their idiosyncrasies?

I was able to fit the 4bt under my hood without any body lift or hood mods. I had plenty of room for exhaust using a 4" downpipe elbow reduced to 3" tubing all the way back.
Jeep 2 diesel I believe to be defunct now. It was an active site quite some time ago but most of their links are dead now.
