I have seen that flex hose on factory CJ's for sure so it's likely that it is factory spec if that is an earlier YJ. As for steering parts, omix-Ada makes a lot of hard to find jeep parts especially for factory replacement.

The joints are replaceable, but might be a beotch to get apart, or not. Also there is a nut and slotted stud on the steering box that when adjusted will take out play in the steering.

That's so heat off of the engine goes up into the air cleaner and when the control valve trips it allows for warm air to be let into the carb. for emissions. You can get a silver or stock black one just about anywhere. You're supposed to have it on a stock carb'd 4.2, but it will run without it. As far as the steering shaft U joint, you can replace it but you're better off with replacing the steering shaft. You can get them aftermarket and they come with new U joints on both ends. Easy to replace.

Yes, the hose is something that would be on your Jeep from the factory. I had one on my 1990 and my son has one currently on his 1989. Yours looks silver compared to ours that look black. Yours could already have been replaced from one at a auto parts store or ours just need to be cleaned, lol. The one you buy from auto store will probably be round but can be bent to fit the oval fitting on air cleaner and the other end stays round to fit manifold. 👋

I can't seem to find a store that carries that pipe, I can only find it in 3 inch. I'd like to just get rid of that big air cleaner altogether, is there a kit you can buy to do that? And I'll just replace the whole steering shaft as well.

It's called "Pre Heater Hose" and yes it is for emissions purposes mostly. However, there are more than a handful of smog experts that claim it really helps to get the engine heated up quicker in colder climates, as it is sending heat directly off of the manifold into the engine.

Once the engine is warmed up there is usually a valve that will shut and only allow the cool air in though, so if your system is working properly then there's no real need to remove it.
