I am in the process of a similar swap (2.5 l 4 cyl manual to 400 CID SBC).

The Novak website has a lot of information about conversions and compatability so that is my resource as mine is a long way from being complete.

In my case I am going with the NV3550 which is apparently about on par with the AX-15. Assuming that you have the NP231 transfer case (I do) the case is suppose to be OK but depending on what your original was you may need to change the input shaft due to the spline (I will need to).
