3rd gear grinding

When I don't warm up my jeep I don't get any grinding but once it's warm I get grinding on my 3rd gear only when I'm driving fast Does any one know what could be the problem?

Possibly syncro gears. Mine does it from time to time. I found a rebuild kit on e-bay for like 150, just have not gotten around to rebuilding it yet.

Mine does the same and was told it was the sychros as well. I just shift to 3rd at lower speeds to prevent it from grinding. However, downshifting, there is no way to prevent it.

Like I posted, I have not done it to mine yet, but it does not look like too much work if you have the tools and area to work on it. Here is a link Jeep AX15 Transmission Rebuild kit AX-15 - eBay (item 170457303201 end time Feb-03-11 10:42:33 PST) for the rebuild kit from an e-bay vender. (I do not endorse any e-bay vendors, this is just a suggestion)

Hey I'm a new member to this forum. I know this is an old thread but I am having the same problem that just started a couple days ago where 3rd gear grinds when downshifting, but does fine upshifting. Just thought I would ask what ended up happening with yours and how you fixed it.

Thanks for bringing this thread back to life! haha. So my synchros are probably bad...........danggggg.

I've never messed with the tranny before so I'll have to have someone do it for me. Hope it won't take too much time and money.

I'm going to try new transmission fluid first. Probably a longshot but it's worth trying the cheapest solution first.

When downshifting try double clutching. Make sure to match the engine and transmission speeds!
