4.0 tapping

Well, since I'm driving it more than usual I'm noticing a few 'features' my Jeep has developed. It's a 92 YJ, 4.0/5m, 145k miles.

The engine makes what seems to be a lifter noise, but it's constant-volume (speed is RPM based). Usually in my experience, once you rev a motor, the oil pressure rises and lifters stop tapping... Looking around briefly (I know, I need to get an FSM) it appears these have stud-mounted rocker arms. What're the chances I have one coming loose? I'd *hate* to have to pull the head to replace lifters....I don't drive it *that* much, lol.

The 4.0L does make some background chater but it should not be excessively loud. The rocker assembly is rail mounted so they are not adjustable pedalstal type. You can access the rail from the top valve cover to inspect for proper adjustment.

Yeah, it's not an "all cylinder" noise, like a chorus. It's more a single-cylinder that's acting up, more of a 'solo'. If that makes any sense. I'm just trying to narrow it down before I hit it with tools...I was in an accident this summer, spent August learning how to walk again on my new titanium-boned legs, and I'm still a little shy on the flexibility and strength and can't spend days under stuff like I used to.... I may toss in some MOA before the next oil change and run it a few miles, see if that un-sticks whatever is sticking....
